About Grain of Hope
Our pantry exists to support individuals and families in Brown County by providing access to nutritious food with dignity, respect, and care. We understand that food insecurity can affect anyone, and our goal is to help fill gaps for Brown County families during times of need—whether temporary or ongoing.
We are committed to creating a welcoming and judgment-free space where Brown County community members feel supported, valued, and respected. Beyond food access, the pantry serves as a place of connection, care, and hope. We believe that no one should have to choose between basic needs, and that everyone deserves access to healthy, culturally responsive food options.
Through partnerships, community support, and shared compassion, we work to reduce hunger while strengthening Brown County—one visit, one family, and one meal at a time.
Our Story
Grain of Hope was founded by Yer Xiong and Lang Vang, a couple who experienced firsthand the struggles many families face while raising their children. Like many others, they relied on community resources to help make ends meet during challenging times. Those supports made a meaningful difference in their lives and showed them the power of community care.
As they became more involved and looked more closely at their own community, Yer and Lang recognized that significant gaps in support still exist—especially for communities of color and immigrant families. Too often, families face barriers such as limited access to culturally familiar foods, lack of information, or fear and stigma when seeking help.
Motivated by these realities, Yer and Lang created Grain of Hope to be more than just a pantry. Their vision is to offer a welcoming, judgment-free space where families can access food with dignity and feel supported, seen, and valued. Grain of Hope is rooted in compassion, cultural understanding, and the belief that when communities come together, no one has to navigate hardship alone.
